Exhaust blowing
« on: 08 July 2011, 19:35 »
Hi for a while now I’ve been trying to fit a scorpion exhaust to my car today was the 4th time tying to get it right. The exhaust is off a 16v and my car is only a 1.6 so I bought a reducer.
However after trying gum gum paste and exhaust bandages I just can’t seem to get it to stop blowing where the reducer join is both sides. Is there anything else I can try?
I’ve clamped it down as much as I can. How much would a garage charge to sort this out roughly? Id rather not wield it since I will want to remove it when I sell my car.
Thanks for the help

in my opinion welding is the only way to completely stop blowing/leaks etc most temporary fixes are exactly that exhaust putty goes hard and eventually falls off clamps etc have to be perfect fit and even then ive never seen any that work 100% so really i cant help you  good luck though  why not just weld it up and sell the exhaust with the car once you've finished with it or simply by a cheap standard exhaust at the time of sale

Thanks for the reply I was planning to keep my standard exhaust anyway but if I get the reducer wielded on not sure how I would get my standard one back on.
How much as a rough guess would a garage charge to wield it up?
All the other joints are fine they just have a sleeve/clamp kind of thing so I was thinking of buying two more of them and see if they do a better job than the clamps that came with the reducer.

Not sure mate as ive got friends who weld things up for me  but im guessing, a garage charges on average £40 an hour labour and i would assume it would take about half hour to an hour to weld it all up nicely depends on the material aswell of course if its stainless some welders cant do it for some reason. im guessing anywhere from £20- £60. Try proper clamps to start with and see how you get on
