radiator fan working overtime
« on: 15 August 2011, 22:53 »
right guys bit of a puzzle here, my car was running all fine recently till i had a lil encounter with the back of a van, it was slow crash so just had to get a new bonnet light grill slam pannel. the radiator has a small inch wide damage to the top, but doesnt effect any of the pipes and doesnt leak any coolant.
so i fixed up the body work, had to remove the rad and fan for this, got everythig re-enstalled , seemed to be working fine, but now when the car gets upto heat the fan kicks in and stays on the majority of the time, the gage never goes over the normal 90* but as i say the fan keeps going, someone suggested air lock so i did the necessary to get rid of tht, no luck there, thermostat was replaced recently, everything was fine before the crash, and from what i remember fine on the drive home from the crash- any idea what the problem could be? fan's doing my head in and i cant trust my car for long trips knowing the engine is getting hot

thanks! andy.

Unplug the fan and see if it stops, if so the fan switch is knackered.

On the side of the radiator is a switch, unplug the wiring and see if it stops.
