Was looking at a really nice 1.4 mk4 yesterday spotless outside and in but a slight ticking noise coming from the engine? Is that bad or is it normal for 1.4's say?

Anyone? there is a tapping noise coming from the engine. Its loud enough at startup when the engine is cold then kinda goes when the engine heats up? Any ideas at what it is? 1.4 16v

hydraulic tappets, theyll need adjusting, typical thing on 1.4, and 1.6,   budget in with what you offer  Around £250 off

Hydraulic tappets but they cannot be adjusted only replaced.

Mines did this noise but after about 1min they stopped. I think it has something to do with the cold engine or something as once it had waited 1 min it went away. Does your rev counter sit slightly higher than normal? for 30 secs or so? sitting idle.

No it doesnt seem to sit higher at idle and it is certainly louder at startup from cold then when it is driving. Is it a big job?

Gone but still keeping a close eye on it...
