Oil on the Air filter?
« on: 06 June 2011, 08:30 »
So after fixing one issue with the car I may have found another!

A while few months when I replaced the air filter it was covered in total crap! more so at the top end of the filter,

I thought best be an idea to check the filter to see if all was well, and it looks like there is some oil on the filter, poss leaking through from the intake pipe?

Any thoughts on this, is this going to be a simple fix, Ive just paid a fair whack of money to get a few things sorted and to pass the mot but no advisories around the engine etc and no advisories at all for that matter.

Ill get a pic up later so you see what I mean

pretty normal mate mine does it, its oil from the crankcase breather pipe that goes into filter housing, tends to be a bit more if you thrash mine, but on the yearly service i remove all intake pipe up to throttle and give it a good clean and also give the throttle a good going over, i use a kn filter and just wash and reoil

wayne gardner smokes one rothmans too many
500cc 2stroke bad for ya health

ahhh that doesnt sound too bad, so more a case of just a bit of a clean! I think i need to get a new air box as it is a bit knackerd and a breather pipe

add to list of things to do!

Aye. Its normal on Valvers to get a bit of oil in the air filter box. I just take all the pipes off and give them a good wash at service time.

Take the breather pipe off airbox, and feed it into a lucozade bottle or similar. Bung the hole in the airbox and voila no more oil on filter

Breather pipe needs a catch tank, you could make one and neatly stash it away or you could be hardcore scene and use a redbull can

Only look into it if its majorly gunking stuff up, but even then you have bigger problems (piston rings)

Mine is the same, the oil is travelling up the intake pipe too. glad i seen this thread, was a little worried

never cleaned mine out (next job)

When you take the pipe off where it goes onto the block, should there be a gauze filter in there because if i pull that pipe off whilst the engine is at idle a lot of oil splashes out.

Just a thought but gauze could have stopped this if it was fitted from new :undecided: and its now rotted away, been stolen , dissapeared

Also do catch tanks have to be removed for the MOT

No they don't fail mot. Lucozade bottles are pukka, and when they get minging just tie wrap a new one in
