eBay, Gumtree, autotrader or where best place to sell?
« on: 19 September 2011, 12:35 »
Hi guys,
My dad passed away 4 weeks ago and with my mum unable to drive she's asked me to get rid of his car.
I usually just trade my car in and have only ever sold on bangers once on gumtree and many years ago in the Autotrader magazine.

So I was wondering the best place to advertise it for the least amount of time wasters.

I wouldn't imagine garages buy from the public at a decent price but could be wrong. Would it be worth my while traipsing around them?

Its a 59 plate Focus with just 9000 miles, so is (to some folk at least!!) a decent car

Steven.

I sold my car on Ad Trader

Didn't get any spam calls or emails from that and sold the car within 2 weeks of it being on the site

Always used Auto Trader as its the place that most people go to I would have thought.

PistonHeads is free aswell so give that a go.

Yeah as said, autotrader is the best place for a car of that age and milage. The free ads, an eBay are better for low end cars where people are looking for cheap ones. Sorry for your loss though.

Thanks guys I'll take a closer look at them.

Alan, Pistonheads look as if they charge but I suppose £10 is nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Cheers Steven.

If you have no particular timescales then I've always managed to sell my cars via Pistonheads free ads.  You do get the odd loser who tries to offer you in the nuts but generally they sell well.  Problem is I guess there are 100s of Focuses for sale.  Price it right and it should fly out the door.

I'd give Pistonheads 4-5 weeks, as alot of people seem to wait until the end of the expiry time for the ad hoping to get a good deal.  Thereafter give Autotrader a go.

Never had any success selling or buying a car via Ebay, seems to be a lot poor quality cars or total tools trying sell on there.
