Sticking on trim with evo-stick
« on: 31 May 2011, 15:01 »
Is this a good idea? I took my gti trim off a while ago but I want it back on again :) But I dont want the rust to come back like it did before, would sticking the arches on with evo-stick stop the water getting in?

My own idea was to take the trim off, and if putting it back on, put underseal or something ontop of the paint (which of course would be hidden by the trim) so that any trapped water shouldn't get through to the metal work.

Also I thought replace the pop rivets/screws with plastic screws/nuts so they can't rust either.

That was my idea.

As to evo stick, if you ever wanted to check on the metal again, wouldn't it be alot of hassle getting the trim off again? Evo stick when set right is meant to be very good (though mine all fell off on my other non-vw car :D ).

Chief :)

Don't be daft

You want a sealant so tigerseal would be better

This is the stuff I have
http://www.bostik.co.uk/diy/product/evo-stik/Serious-Stuff/22

why is it daft lol I thought it was pretty clever  It probably would be a pain to get off again, but I doubt I'll be taking it off again. After going from GTi trim to CL trim for around 6 months I deffinatly prefer the GTi trim :)

My old holes where the rivets held the trim on are all buggered and dont fancy drilling more holes in my arches, it always comes back to haunt me

That will be fine.
The one I use doesn't damage the paint and comes off easy.

Tiger seal is better as it flexes so keeps the water out.
