mk3 tdi.. Bias valve an MOT requirement?
« on: 23 May 2011, 02:04 »
So I've got a '96 mk3 Tdi 1Z. Discs on the front, drums on the back. I currently do not have a brake bias system fitted. Is this an MOT requirement that it must be fitted?

The brakes still work very well (If not better!) And the rears don't lock up prematurely or anything, so it all seems ok. I can understand the need for the valve if I had discs on the back too, but drums are rubbish!

Anyway, is this something I'm going to have to re-fit before MOT time?

Drums arnt rubbish, drums have a self servo effect so in theory they need it more than discs,  the more you apply turning force to the shoes pushed against the drum, the more the shoes will bite, like a door wedge.  They are crap coz they overheat! lol  But..  Depends how switched on the MOT tester is, might not even notice there isnt one.

Keep your wits about you in the wet though!!!  If you slam them brakes on they will lock in the wet.
