Central Locking Pump Running On
« on: 18 May 2011, 19:21 »
A little while ago my drivers side door stopped unlocking / unlocking easily with the key. It progressively worse until no matter how much back and worth I did it just wouldn't trigger the lock / central locking system. So I used the passenger door for about 8 months.

Now when I unlock from the passenger door they all unlock, but when I get in I can hear the pump in the boot pretty loudly run on for about a minute. Turning off etc doesn't seem to stop it. Also when I lock the car the driver knob didn't go down on its own and I had to put key in driver door and turn it, even though that alone would not open the door or seem to catch anything.

Hopefully unrelated. the day before these problems I jump started a car.

Any ideas what it may be? and is it serviceable?

Check for an air leak on the drivers side, poss in rubber bit between the door and car.

So its air driven? I guess a leak means it doesn't have full power to always push the knob up and even if it does it isnt registering fully due to lack of pressure?

My pump did the same as yours. There was no leaks in the system and it just turned out to be a tired motor in the pump. Got a second hand one of flea bay for a tenner and it works a treat

Before spending anything on a pump, I'd spend a few minutes as prescribed above.  Just have a listen around each door (mine was the passenger side rear) for air leaks.

You'll see the air pipes run through into the doors through the middle of the multi plugs which carry the electric window/speaker cables.

When I bought mine, the central locking wasn't working due to the previous owner obviously being a lazy idiot and disconnecting the pump rather than fix the problem.  Mine had cracked where it enters the multi plug so a quick snip either side of the multi plug and a length of slightly oversized pipe had it fixed.  Very little pressure so don't worry about it being that solid a fix.
