My Mk4 1.8 (N/A)....
« on: 17 May 2011, 22:52 »
hi i recently picked up a 1999 3DR mk4 GTI 1.8 20v (N/A) with the heated leather interior, i paid 800 after trading my 1.4 mk3 in, and have recently fully serviced it all. Its now near enough running perfectly except for one thing... sometimes when the engine is idling or dropping revs with clutch in it stalls yet one running for a 5-10 minutes no problem...any ideas?

On to the Fun part i have recently sprayed the dashboard and air vents chrome silver

and im looking to put the A5 alloys 18" and the mesh sport abs grill on to make it look like this

But i wish to get the bhp up to about 150-160 as its the non turbo 20v what can i do to get this result? thanks! :)

I don't think your hit 150+ bhp from a 1.8na and it won't be worth it better off waiting and getting the 1.8 turbo

A real 304bhp 286lbft in a mk4 golf!

Currently down under

the engine is completely standard atm so if 150bhp is out of question what what you recommend doing to get a bit more out of it?
boost valve?, Dump Valve?, performance injectors, induction kit?, any thing as such? t

thanks

by air filter you mean take this stupid box filter out and put in a K&N ?,
and exhaust wise would just getting a back box just make it sound better then?
remap.. i will do this once i have modified as much as i can or should i just do this first?

ino buying a 1.8t would be best but im on 18 and the insurance isn't appealing would rather get much power and nicest sound out of this for now thanks :)

You will not make much / any difference to the power really, best off leaving as is and getting a turbo when you can.

hmmm, yeah i havn't got round to check the insurance rise yet,,
OK opinion to just doing appearance mods on this then when i upgrade to the 1.8T transfer the alloys, grill, spoiler, suspension and interior parts across? that sounds more logical at this moment of time no?

thanks guys!

Yep great idea :afro: still check your insurance as any changes will need to be declared.
