ok so i found the sender in the boot and pulled off the clip with 4 wires on, put a wire between 1 and 4 and still no movement on gauge, does this mean the gauge is f...cked?

Still dont know why there's 4 wires on the sender unit, but its the wire that goes to the gauge that you need to earth, if the gauge still dont move then earth the wire or terminal at the gauge end incase the wire from gauge to sender is broke if it still dont move, check that other side of guage has ign live feed, if it dont find out why (fuse stabiliser etc) although that would probably affect your temp gauge too. If feed ok and still dont move, then replace guage. Hope that helps.  :smiley:

Only had 2 wires on mine, a blue and a yellow.
Mystic Blue Mk3 16v + Black Mk5 Gti 05 plate + Peugeot 405 Mi16
