rev to 2000 rpm then oil light and buzzer
« on: 22 March 2005, 20:46 »
When my mk 2 8v gti revs over 2k rpm the oil light starts flashing and buzzing...

Switch off engine and fire up - silent.

Until you rev it again!!!

Checked for oil leaks and there are none. oil level is fine also.

Recently changed oil pressure switch as it was leaking. Coincidence?

Any help would be great as it is sending me mad...

Cheers. Mark.

Could you get the oil pressure checked, A garage should be able to do this at a fairly cheap price.

Also, have you had the oil changed recently? what can sometimes happen is a lot of debris can build up on the oil strainer and restrict oil flow.  Might be worth your while getting a can of engine flush, in most cases you put that in with your old oil, run the car at idle for half hour then renew your oil and filter.  If that doesnt work maybe your oil pump is not working correctly. The fact that you have changed the oil pressure switch and the problem still happens indicates no fault with the warning system.

if the oil pressure is below 2 bar at above 2000 rpm the buzzer comes on i somethimes have the same problem
with corrado when it has not been driven for a while but mine is just a sender playing up as when the buzzer goes
a quick check of th oil pressure gauge confims this. dont think the worst get a gauge fitted and check the pressure you self
dont drive with the buzzer going unless your sure it not low oil pressure or you will be needing a new engine

there are two pressure switches, a 0.3 bar one on the cylinder head and a 1.8 bar one on the oil filter head. when you start the car its the 0.3 one thats working initially this is why its silent. when you rev over 2k rpm the high pressure switch comes into operation and if the pressure is below 1.8 bar the light will come on and the buzzer will buzz.

so you depending on which switch you changed you either bought a duff high pressure one or something like that. i'd say the fact that you changed one of the switches and the problem happening are connected wouldn't you?

PROBLEM SOLVED!

When I changed the oil pressure switch, I weakened the spade connector that goes on top, it had been momentarily popping off and then back on and buzzing until I killed the engine.

Crimped on a new connector and WALLA (?)  all workin' fine.....

Until something else goes on it eh?
