Warm Engine Idle Issues
« on: 07 May 2011, 14:04 »
Hi Guys,

First of all thanks for all the advice if you have given some, my van is now MOT'd :) I have a K Jet DX engine in my T25 campervan.

However...

I am having issues with the van where after using the van for an extended period (over 30 mins driving) and I stop for say 10 mins, when I come back the engine is struggling to idle, almost feels like the idle is to low and it stalls. Give it a little bit of accelerator peddle and its fine. If i leave it the next day it idles fine again.

I would think it was issues with the WUR or the idle stabiliser but the engine gets up to temp pretty quick and so driving it for up to an hour on occasions its fine. Just seems to be when I then leave it for a little bit and come back it then has the idle issue.

Any Ideas on what to test / eliminate first?

Start by cleaning the throttle body with carb cleaner, to make sure it's not gummed up. Then you're into K-jet issues, I recommend using some string to measure the length of with relation to these...
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

you need to check pressures mate, particularly the system pressure when engine is warm and switched off, iirc it should be something like 2 bar after 20mins, if its not this points to an accumulator problem or the one way valve on the fuel pump.

when engine is hot and switched off, if the system pressure is not holding then whatever fuel is contained in the system  evaporates due to the heat of the engine, and because the engine is still warm on restart the cold start valve will not compensate for the lack of fuel and help the system get up to correct pressure as it would on a cold start
