hi  i brought my first vw golf friday its a gti 1.8 turbo 1998 all standard with high hopes of doin some engine mods to get my bhp where do you think i should start and what sort of bhp can you get out of these engines

Near 300. Welcome.
You could start with many things. Remap? If your search you'll find what you need todo to get the most with a remap.
