just go buy a 1.4 mk5 (an ugly gutless machine) as you seem hell bent on one. just dont complain when you realise everyones comments were right in saying dont buy one :rolleyes: :grin:

After coming to the realisation that money will be tight, think I will get a cheap mk4 for the time being. Then save for a mk6 Polo. They are beautiful motors.

Get the 1.6 FSI mk5, it's a much more comfortable drive than the 1.4. More power, better power band, better economy, overall just superior. The 1.9 TDIs are good if you can stretch to it but it depends on your mileage really. The mpg I get from my 1.4 is grand for my daily drive.

If i do go for the Golf, it will be the 1.6 FSI, but it doesnt look very likely now  :cry:

If you want a MK5, get a Leon instead.

Same chassis, lower (iirc) on insurance for an equivilant non performance model, and generally cheaper to buy second hand, most of all they look far better.
