KR Bosch Fuel Pumps
« on: 01 March 2011, 08:40 »
Does anybody know the difference between:

171 906 091 A  / 0580254909

and

0 580 254 033

?

I have a Mk2 Scirocco with an early (I think) kr conversion. The pump (OE one) died 8 months ago and I replaced it with an original Bosch used one, which now seems to be on its way out.

Can I use the 0 580 254 033 one? I've read it is for the kr but is it slightly bigger than the old one I had (171 906 091 A)?

Many thanks all

I am 99% sure the mk2 pump is different and will not fit, Scirroco's use the mk1 set up from memory.

Cheers Wayne,

Thought they may be a different size, in case anyone wants more technical details on the pumps I found this:

Part Number........ litres / hour ......(pressure)
0 580 254 023........... 168............ (5 Bar) (72psi)
0 580 254 040........... 102............ (6.5 Bar) (94psi)
0 580 254 044........... 200 ............(5 Bar) (72psi)
0 580 254 046........... 207............ (3 Bar) (43psi)
0 580 254 053........... 175............ (5 Bar) (72psi)
0 580 254 909........... 148............ (5 Bar) (72psi)
0 580 254 910........... 130............ (5 Bar)  (72psi)
0 580 254 911........... 95.............. (4 Bar) (58psi)
0 580 254 975........... 165............ (5 Bar) (72psi)
0 580 254 979........... 165............ (5 Bar) (72psi)
0 580 254 984........... 165............ (5 Bar) (72psi)
0 580 464 069........... 98.............. (4 Bar) (58psi)
0 580 464 070........... 130............ (3 Bar) (43psi)
B 261 205 413.......... 200............ (8 Bar) (116psi)

From what I am told, the  0 580 254 044 and the B 261 205 413 are the same pump,
Bosch tests the "044" to qualify it to be called a "413"  (see flow chart)

yeah the mk2 pump needs to be fitted inside the plastic reservoir to work, and this wont fit under the mk1 chassis as there just isnt room. if your pumps keep dying check the lift pump in the tank is working, assuming it was a proper scirocco injection model to start with

It was a carby, but the tank was changed so I presume, I do have a lift pump. I will need to check it and for rust in the tank as the filler started to disintegrate before I bought the car and was fixed then.

Cheers

that should be next on the list, the lifter has a little mesh filter on the end which could be blocked, plus if its not there thats why your main pumps keep dying. you should also have a plastic fuel reservoir under the car to prevent fuel starvation. also worth checking the fuel pipes are connected the right way round on your lifter pump, have seen em fitted wrong before.

that being said you dont actually have to change the tank to convert the car to injection, carb and inj scirocco are the same unless its a really early one with the main pump outlet on the side at the bottom. if its this type then there is no lifter pump or reservoir but it should have an internal swirl pot. worth a look cos the cheap ass pattern tanks often dont have a swirl pot fitted

Cheers John, I'll check that out the filter in the lifter and the reservoir. Will check the pipes too.

I agree, I think the tank was changed because of the rusty neck at some point, its a 92 rocco so no swirl pot for me

PS ive been looking on GSF and there appear to be 2 different fuel filters:

121VG0040 (Scirocco filter)
121VG0060 (KR Filter)

Im pretty sure I have the scirocco one at the mo, can I fit the KR one and is it worth doing so?

Thanks

the kr filter is too big anyway, the mk1 stylee filters are smaller in diameter.  you may still be able to fit it as iirc the fittings are the same. but no point fitting the kr one anway as the mk1 filter is just fine. std mk1 filter certainly worked alright on my kr cabby ;)
