mk 3 2.0 gti 8v engine stall

Hi,
   I have a problem with my car starts ok but sometimes the engine just dies then i have to wait for about what seems like ages but is only about 1 min and then it restarts again also i can stop the car go into a shop buy a paper come back out and it wont start , then just as if someone throws a switch it starts .
 Has anybody got any ideas as i am starting to get fed up with it.
Sometimes you can drive it 100 miles without it doing it?

Glad to hear you have got it sorted and thanks for letting us know what the "fix" was.
These relays seem to be a common fault.
