Turbo cuts out..
« on: 15 February 2011, 12:20 »
Hi all, I have a 96 1.9 tdi mk3 which is the 90bhp AHU model I believe.

I have a strange problem where if say, I'm sat at 60mph on 5th and I put my foot down it'll start going somewhere, turbo will kick in and I can feel the power coming through, then all of a sudden the turbo will cut out, even though I'm still accelerating. Sometimes I can get the turbo to come back on by lifting my foot fully off the pedal, then re-applying it. But it'll usually just cut back off after a second or two.

Any ideas? Is this some kind of limp mode?

I've just scanned the car in VAGCOM and found the two following errors:

Chassis type: 1H - VW G/J/V Mk3
Scan: 01,02,03,08,15,25,56

Address 01: Engine
Controller: 028 906 021 AF
COmponent: 1, 9l R4 EDC SG     D80
COding: 000000
Shop #: WSC 000000
2 Faults found:

01117 - Generator Terminal DF Load Signal
27-10 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent

00575 - Intake Manifold Pressure
17-10 - Control Difference - Intermittent

Readiness:N/a

This is my first time using VAGCOM so just thought i'd output everything.. and I don't really know what to make of those two errors?

Thanks in advance! :)

yep its sounds like waistgate. mine did the same. if you can remove the exhaust from the turbo
and you may see its half open (without the engine running).
i soaked it wd40 and plus gas. been fine ever since.
mine was code 00532 i think? cheap code reader.
hope this helps

Thanks for the info :) I'll look into this. Is it a big job to take off the turbo exhaust?

Also thought about removing the intake manifold to check it is all sludgey inside. Could this be part of my problem?
