I raced a ST last year in my old 16v he was in a black one with a stupid stripe going through it he decided to blast past me so I thought I would follow and follow I did.He didnt leave me for dead infact in the end he actually slowed down and wouldnt go again due to the fact he was pissed of that my £1000 Golf wasnt to far behind him.Its ok posting figures up but figures arent the bible there a guide and with some Golfs ive owned over the years some are quicker than others weather its because they have been abused and thrased to sh1t I dont know but thats my view anyhow.

im very fond of Fords, and the ST is a good all rounder, they are real good once mapped

I still prefer older hot Ford's or Cosworth's.

the real truth behind all these mk2/3 'ive beaten' threads is that the golfs are cheap sheds compared to the cars they are 'racing' so why would the owner want to risk damaging their car for the sake of punishing someone who cant afford a nice car..

give someone a free st for the day and they will piss all over mk2/3's

People forget how cars have evolved, chassis improved, braking improved, safety systems involved.

In the right road, my Mk3 will easily stick with my Mk6...but in the Mk3 you are driving 90% or more, caning the arse off it on the limit of grip and traction...in the Mk6 you are cruising along in comfort, at around 40% effort, stereo on, ESP on, no traction issues...no drama, no fuss.

You take the Mk6 up to 90% and the Mk6 wouldn't see which way it went...the chassis is so much better.

Reducing my Golf count by the week....
..but gaining motorcycles.
