Sorry guys it's another non-starter thread!

I've researched previous topics and narrowed down the causes by replacing most common faults... It's defo electrical... It wasn't carrying a spark so I replaced the coil, rota arm, and distributer but still no spark. The engine turns over but nothing comes off it.

This leads me on to the crank sensor. Could this be the culprit? How easy/hard is it to replace?

The characteristic of when the car broke down was that I lost power from the engine completely, it didn't cough or shudder, the engine just died. The normal warning lights are on but strangely so is the oil light. I've checked the oil levels and it's fine.

Basically ate there any other options I can go cos a new crank sensor is £50+ and ain't really got the money to splash out. If n e one else has got an idea or wud care to shed some light on my sh!TTy situation then I'm all ears! (gettin a bit peeeeeed off now lol!)

Ps. If n e one is in the Essex area and has vagcom n wudnt mind coming down to Braintree for some beer tokens so I can see if any fault codes are coming up.

I've p

What engine are you running ?
Are you definately shore its not getting a spark still ?
if its a late 95 onwards could be something to do with immobiliser maybe
if it turns out its the crank sensor i have a used one but its only 6 months old and my cars been off the road for 2 of them due to crashing  i bought it brand new i would send it posted for £18?

other things could try disconnecting the maf sensor and seeing if that helps or check all your earth leads including the one to the coil pack did you replace it when you put the new one on? try ecu and fuel relays cant remember what numbers they are il find out now   Ive ran out of ideas start with relays though cheapest option

Try all this infact :D

ecu relay number 30
fuel pump relay number 80
if relays are cold wen car is warm change them.
Ignition coil common on these
Throttle body cleaning, remove black pipe between airflow meter n housing, remove thin vacum pipe from top of housing.remove accelerator cable, remove 4 allen key bolts round housing, loosen bottom pipe wen housing loose, remove electric plug,on housing, clean housing wiv carb cleaner or brake cleaner.
distribuator cap
rotar arm
Plug leads n  plugs
distribuator,hall sensor
oil pressure sensor
clean throttle control valve
Reset ecu, disconnect battery for about 15 mins n reconnect
Crank sensor, situated jus above oil fliter housing black sensor, wiv wire that runs behind housing
Ignition switch
Battery earths under battery tray
Temperature sensor
air flow meter
Vacum pipes prone to leaks

Right!! I've found the culprit!!

The distributer has bust... The cog (in the lump) that helps turn the rota arm has broken, thus the rota arm not turning round when turning over!

What I want to know is how much wud a new/used distributer cost and would I need a specific distributer to my engine (2E) or will any gti distributer work?

Cheers!

hmm not good well im not sure about the distributor on the 2e engines however on the agg ady which i have both there seems to be a different type between the two but i cant see why a different one wouldn't work inless there weighted different inside  :undecided:

if you can find a code on yours i will compare to mine and if its the same on either car i will sell you it £25 delivered i think there about 60-80 new and second hand anywhere from £15+ from breakers etc

2e engine doesnt use crank sensor so the timing is done from the dizzy, this is why you need to get a 2e dizzy and no other. im sure this is right

You will need a 2e distributor as it is a different set up to the later ones.
