its just short runs that are doing it, for the oil change use oil that vw specify for the car, i`m thinking its a mk2 so check your hand book and see what that says i know it wont be saying mobil1 or any other fully synthetic oil ( and before you start i left school and trained as a vag mechanic for three years and i know what oil was recommended for gti`s if it was good enough then its good enough now )

Have the same on the gf's mk4 2.0 GTI 8 valve....quite a lot of it (mayo), immediately thought must be head gasket...but had it "block tested" at a couple of places and they said not head gasket thankfully.

It goes away in the summer, but comes back in the winter, so condensation getting in somewhere but nobody knows where ! Breather pipes have been checked / cleaned, all appears fine so it's a bit of a mystery. The chaps on vwvortex indicated it was quite common with these engines.

She does reasonable commute in it (20 miles or so each way) so not just short journeys.

Reasonably frequent flushes and oil changes should hopefully mean it's not a prob, car drives fine touch wood.
