MK4 2.0 GTI Pencil Coil

Sooooo called the RAC out and they ran diagnostics on the car which told me that
a) Misfire in Piston 3 which means I need a pencil coil replaced (but better to get all 4 done at once as they usually die one after the other)
b) I need a coolant temperature sensor

I called VW....They told me I don't have pencil coils on my car, that I have some sh!t to do with HT leads and only have 1 ignition coil on the car which is £114+vat to repair.

Can anyone PLEASE offer me some clarity on this? I'm so frustrated and I really can't afford to be without a car for much longer (I'm too scared to drive it!)

there right, you only have one coil on the 2.0 (wasted spark system) but its an easy job to do yourself, dont pay for vw to fix it, do it yourself, how much was it just to buy the coil?

edit, just thought, if you only have one cylinder off then it may just be ht lead, or in need of new plugs, they should be replaced when you do the coil anyway

your better off taking the car vw so they can see the car, i rang up vw for a part and when they checked my numberplate i was driving a tdi apparently,( im driving a gti 8v for the record)

VW are correct, pencil coils are for the 1.8t engine... I believe you have the AJZ 2.0 non turbo so it's single coil pack and leads.  Don't waste your money, if it were me I would take a chance on THIS for £35 delivered or THIS for £90 if you have the cash as they are like new...

It is very easy to fit, only a couple of bolts hold it in place and only has one plug into it and four HT leads out of it to your sparks... All you have to do is be methodical with the HT leads to ensure you plug them into the right locations.... i'm sure when you get the part better guidance at the time on here can get you through it... Or do you not want to bother attempting?

Mine's the AQY..... VW want £114+vat for the part, AllParts want £70+vat for the part - quite a large price difference for me really....anywhere else I can get it? The guy at VW was so unhelpful - wouldn't give me the proper part name/number or anything!
