how hard is a 2.0 16v coversion on a mk1?

hi, i am interested in fitting a corrado 2.0 16v engine in my mk1 gti. i was thinking of doing it my self, how hard is it and what special parts will i need? will the gear box stay the same? and how much faster will it be or is it better to tune me 1.8 8v? cheers roberto :laugh:

Use the mk1 engine mounts, flywheel and a 16v pressure plate with a 8v clutch disk. Your g/box will be OK, use a 16v brake master cylinder and servo so the dist cap and leads clear. Get a specialist 4 branch manifold from one of the tuning firms, shift the fuel metering unit to the drivers side and use the inlet pipework to match. You will have to mess about a bit with hoses and things, but if you get that far, you are almost there :smiley:.
Probably missed a lot of stuff, but have "man" flu.
