1999 Gti 100mm drop need advice for wheels!!! Help :(
« on: 01 February 2011, 01:17 »
Hi i have a 1999 gti and im planning on buying this coilover kit and dropping it 100m

http://www.venommotorsport.com/manufacturer_product.php?manufacturer=FK&category=suspension&product=AKStreetCoilovers&make=VW&model=Golf%20Mk%204

But if i used this kit would i be able to fit 18 inch wheels in the arches without rolling or modifying them i know there big wheels and was wondering if 17's would be a better all rounder for ride and fitment reasons. I am looking at these dotz wheels and just need some guidence.

http://www.rimstyle.com/products/detail/?category=alloy_wheels;type=dotz_mugello_mb;model=12930;id=DOMUG-MB-ID12930-D17-W80l80-P5100-E32l32

Thanks

Sam

dnt waste your money on those. there has been a few bad complaints on here about the quality of the polished lip after a bit of ware they dnt stand up to it much. plus they look small once wrapped in rubber even in a 18" cuz of the dish. you wud be better rolling the arches and getting spacers and fitting some ch or lm reps IMO,these tend to look good if your going for a slammed look with rims on the arches.i wudnt go much wider than 8j on front if slamming it on coilovers .rather than fork out on wider wheels and risk them not fitting you can always get a wider stance by using spacers. good luck

100mm drop is a big drop without modding the arches are anything..  you would adjustable droplinks for a start.. maybe even uprated ARB.. i cant see you fitting 18' or 17' and going that low with no problems..

IMO i think if u getting coilovers and 18's just wind them down till they just above the tyre i wudnt state exact drops in mm cuz like tech mentioned u wont be able to do as much as u think and may not need or want to once u have the new wheels on. i think patch's black mk4 had some sweet 18's with a tidy drop on the tyre's,spk to him for setup advice.

There coilovers so just gonna lower it by 60 first and make sure nothings touching the floor or out of place it was pretty stupid to think I could go straight to 100mm lol thanks for the advice though :)

You won't get a mk4 to drop 100mm and still be able to move the wheels,so a drop that big isn't an option on coilies.

You will struggle to go much lower and still have a car you can use.

+1      the air suspension on my Q7 dnt even move 4 inches so u will have a job on a mk4 on coilovers . unless u want the tyres going into the engine bay.   :grin:like i said dnt state big drops. buy your new wheels and suspension and just wind it down to the tyres and dnt cause yourself problems!
