Couple of issues

Couple of guys came to look at the golf today and found a couple of pretty big faults.

It ran out of petrol aaaaages ago and now it won't start unless something flammable is sprayed into the inlet, is this likely to be the lift pump, if so how easy are they to change?

Also you can turn the nearside strut mount thingy by hand under the bonnet, is it best to change these two at a time and is there a guide on here showing me how to do it?

Got some serious rot on the go under the battery aswell so god knows how I'm gonna get that sorted cus I'm skint. Going to end up getting nothing for the car unless I sort some of these things out really soon so I could really use some pointers.
Anybody from the Leicester area who could point me in the direction of a good welder would be my hero

Battery tray like you said just needs cutting out and welding  up with new sheet.

You talking about the metal cap on the strut? because if thats the case it just needs tightening up.

No idea on the lift pump.

lift pumps can be had for about £25 on GSF, and take less than 30 mins to swap (remove assembly, pump needs separating from the assembly, refit assembly)

I called em today and it is £90  £21 for the in tank pump though 

The chap I spoke to is a dub fanatic and has some parts for me at home, also put me in touch with a mobile welder who is coming out to give me a free quote tomorrow. Good times.

the £21 pump is the lift pump,  . Take it easy on removal, as the delicate fuel gauge bits are part of the assembly.

Yeah I did wonder about that  think it was because they told me that the pump under the car was the lift pump.
