K&N Panel Filter
« on: 26 January 2011, 20:36 »
Hey chaps,

I've got a 97 GTI 8v (AGG), and I'm trying to fit my K&N panel filter from my old car. My old car was a 94 1.4 with the square airbox, and the filter is a 33-2069, which is apparently the correct one for both cars.

Problem is, it fitted in the old car, but I cannot close the top part of the air box for love nor money in the GTI with the filter in place! I took the box out, and with much heaving got the lid closed, but then I couldn't get the box back in the car!

I've compared the paper filter and the k&n one, and they are the same size!
Any ideas?

Thanks

When I put in my piperx one, it was a tight squeeze, seems the rubbery bit round the edge is a bit deeper, so had to be firm to close it, prob a good thing to have a nice tight seal.. Try removing the inlet pipe to get in place and then reconnect it once back in..

+1 on that. I had to push the middle of the filter down a little to get all sides of the seal in. Bit of a pain but got there in the end!
