You guys are life savers :)

Was the actuation arm with a clear break

So now the GSF parts:

Clutch Operating Lever - 193VG0100
Clutch Release Bearing Cover Plate - 193VG0110
Clutch Cable Self Adj - 715VG0240

The Lever and Cover Plate I order from the Mk2 section is that correct?

Thanks for all your help

fairly common issue and luckily yours broke on the outside so you could see it! many break on the other side so it's hidden (and I know of 1 vw specialist that said a gearbox was finished when it was simply this ratchet thing!)

Only just noticed from the pic that part of the alloy casting is broke  :undecided:

I'll blame previous owner as the cap was tampered with in that area. Shouldn't cause too much problem should it as it is at the top?

Thanks

shouldn't be an issue...it's mainly a dust seal

I would get the parts from VW, as for the casing does not look good but don't think it will matter in the long run.

you can remove that bit of the casing with box in the car, only held on with 6 13mm bolts. get down scrappy and have another one off 1.8-2.0 8v mk3 or 1.6-1.8 8v/16v mk2, good news is the clutch arm comes with it so dont need to buy any new parts assuming the scrappy one is ok. unbolt your old one, bolt on the new one with replacement gasket, job done

Quick question. I bought the part 193VG0100 Release Lever from GSF but it is much thinner!

It is the same shape and groved the same but the clip that goes over it when fitted is not going to be tight on the sides. Could this result in play? I think it was the correct part I ordered, has anyone fitted a GSF one before?

Yes I know I should have gone VAG but in a hurry to get back on the road :(

Thanks

JOB DONE :)

Thanks for all the help guys.

Replacing the release arm wasn't that bad, but the self adjusting cable was a nightmare supprisingly. I ended up having to use the car jack to jack the bottom of the clutch arm up enough to secure the cable end. Also I managed to lean on my dizzy and snap one of the lugs so had to replace. Oh well live and learn.

Cheers
