Having trouble getting a decent quote.
« on: 06 January 2011, 23:24 »
Was with aviva paying 1.1k last year, however they want 1.6 k this year, so  i have been ringing around for quotes,
Got one off Admiral for £1075 which is good however as i want to mod the car have tried some specialist insurers,

Flux came back at £1468.00 with my Grandad on the policy,
Brentacre came back at £1600 and said not to bother putting my Grandad on as it will make the policy more of a risk?
Sky will not do fully comp for my age,
Hic said not to bother as they will be identicle to Flux?

Anyone else to try?
Cheers.

As above, don't bother with your Grandad as depending on his age he is likely be seen as a risk so will probably increase the premuim further. Any other experienced drivers will usually bring the cost down, for example my mum and girlfriend are on my policy which reduce the premuim by about 1/4. My dad isn't on because he has points and would increase the policy, just have a play around online with different named drivers as see what happens.

Generally though, lower premiums and modifications do not go hand in hand

Crazy isn't it!  The high cost of insurance.  That's one thing I can be smug about being in my late 30's, I pay less than £700 to have all 3 of our cars insured.

OK, I know not very helpful, but I just thought I'd let you know.

What car is it ??  If it's 15 years old (or older) you may qualify for Classic Car Insurance which is very cheap. I insured an 8v GTI (Mark 3) and a VR6 (Mark 3) for less than I was paying on a Mark 4 GTI. If you can get classic insurance then the savings will easily pay for the mods

Almost all classic car policies require the driver to be aged over 25 (21 sometimes) and the vehicle to be a second/weekend car, usually garaged, limited mile usage and generally over 20 years old.  But shop around.

Try Lancaster Insurance they tend to be a bit less fussy on their classic policies.

The company I use cover anything over 15 years. Not sure on the minimum age but my car is fine as a daily as long as I don't exceed the miles and if I do I only need to ring them and they will cover me again straight away. Mine also does not need to be garaged. It seems all companies are different but I use Heritage Insurance who are very helpful and cheap. I would highly reccomend them to anyone
