Mk2 buying advice

Hi guys, i'm looking to get a mk2, hopefully a 16v. Are there and suggestions or recommendations when looking for one, i'm looking around and can see they vary in price by quite a large margin. I saw one for 4k has had everything pretty much all thats needs changing, either replaced or refurbed in more or less near show condition inside and out, with the owner i believe using as his week end car, waxing it often and not taking it out rain or snow. I also saw one for 2k having all the interior electrics put right and the engine repaired to get it into good working condition, however the interior has a few rips and the body work has a few dents, with the owner using it as his daily driver. Is it worth paying 2k extra for the first one or saving that 2k and putting it towards fixing up the second one?

USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION.  Covered more times than a porn star's face.
Buy on bodywork, more or less everything else can be replaced easily and cheaply.

Oak Green in NOT RARE.   

16V is the way to go. Less common than the 8v by a factor of 4 to 1.

Get a 90' spec "big bumper" one if you can as the engine conversions are easier.

Hi mines up for sale check it out on pistonheads ref 1974745, I,d agree with last post bodywork for me is most important engine etc you can tinker With and do in time. Good luck with your purchase.

The first one is a tad overpriced but that seems to be due to the work done to it and the extras.
I would say the fourth one (blue 3door 16v) is worth a look. Rare colour, 3 door (more desirable),fairly standard, decent history and well priced.*

thanks, I'll give it a look, and to mr burns I saw your golf on pistonheads, looks nice!! I saw it was in devon, and decided not to include it as I live in London and it is quite a drive (finding someone wanting to drive there will be quite a chellenge lol)
