That's very neat.
The only downside is that when using it connected to a TV you have to connect it to the power, meaning if you wanted to just carry it around, say to do presentations at meetings or to a friends house, you'd have to carry a power supply too.

Looks like it might use USB to power it, I'd be happy as my TV has a USB port I plug a 4Gb USB drive in to watch movies, and this would convert it into a proper media center setup without having a desktop/laptop to power it

Yeah, certainly would be a neat way to watch downloaded stuff on your TV without needing a noisy power hungry computer (at the moment I have a netbook connected for this job).
The obvious issue is that at $200 it's actually more expensive than the Apple TV, if you're just looking at it for a home entertainment playout sytem. But that said, it's going to be more customisable with it running Android or Linux and you can expand the memory too.

Yeah, it is steep but I'm sure the price will come down. It's the size that amazes me. The Apple TV unit runs NetBSD as far as I know which also makes it a good platform to hack and do what you want with, however now they don't have an internal hard drive that narrows down their uses somewhat.

The only possible narrowed use for the atv is you have to play the films on something else to stream,either Iphone,ipad or computer but that not really a big issue but yes they are very hackable even if you don't want to hack them you can just convert your films with handbrake to mp4 although this isnt the best solution. It is a shame they didn't allow a usb connection on them for an external hardrive but you can stream to them via your network from a Nas drive.

Brilliant idea, I'm new to Android and really liking it. Just downloading an Android ISO to burn to the netbook as I need something faster than the linux based gumph on it.
