what alarm to fit????
« on: 10 December 2010, 11:26 »
Hello all,

having just bought the mk2 16v (no alarm or immobiliser) I think I should really fit something to help with insurance and to hopefully prevent my pride & job being pinched!

Can anyone recommend what best/cheapest value alarm and/or immobiliser I should fit???
thanks

cant really help with which one to fit but make sure its Thatcham approved (category 1 or 2) as these will offer the best saving on insurance.

Cat 1 is certainly the best type of thing for your car. You must make sure it is fitted by a qualified technician and comes with a certificate otherwise it may as well not be there.

From what I understand, Cat 2s tend to be mainly just immobilisers. It is always worth having a friendly chat with insurers to see what they will give discounts for.

Keeping schtum. Mostly.

I am getting the Toad 606i fitted to my van. It offers fully protections and GAP are fitting it for me. It is costing me £320 fitted at my chosen address.

Agreed with above, Troublestarter came to my work and fitted my Toad Ai606 to my Mk3 and did a great job. I wanted someone who knew Mk3's inside out and couldn't ask for anything better. Alarm is neat, working great and no horror stories or issues with regards to battery drains etc like you sometimes get. To top it off he did it all at a great price too, better than your GAP quote who I also rang. Hopefully he can do the same deal :)

Thoroughly recommended
