Thanks veedub. That's exactly where I was going to put the water temp, so it's good to know it's been tried and tested. Why did you put the oil temp into the sump? Was the back of the head not accurate enough? If I went for the sump, I'd probably get one of those sump plugs with a thread inside for the sensor.

Has anyone got any experience of these please?
Cheers
I originally had mine in the sump plug but got a really low reading whilst driving and seriously high when slowed down. I read somewhere that the air coming in under the engine can cool the temp sender, not sure that was the cause but the temp reading got more believable and more stable when I moved it.

Sumps don't get the best readings,  in stock application the top of the filter houseing is where the oil temp sensor lives on cars with MFA.

TBH i have fallen out with gauges all together.   on the cordoba most of the instaments left. only kept  rev counter, added 2 and orage and a red light and an lcd display controlled by a pic that chatterd tot he ecu and a few extra sensors

RED flashy light = engine dead
ORANGE light permantly on  =  big problem but will still drive

then a LCD pannel display that displayed the field that was out of range and a virtual gauge.  its a well known fact that when your on a mission that gauges are pointless as they don't get looked at untill ther is a large red flashy light and or a loud bang / loss of power
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

no way is a capillary gauge fitting in the oil filter housing, the sender bulbs are massive  too big for any sump plug adapters i have seen anywhere

thats quite inpressive,   last mecanical oil pressuer gauge i had just threaded in to the filter houseing.  tho the pipe from it did carry engine oil up to the gauge itself

dogh temp gauges, the feed  line to the oil cooler is a place sensros have been put before

yeah pressure pipe is ok on the filter housing, temp sender bulb looks like this

probably too wide for the oil cooler pipe as well unless you can get a nice adapter like below for a smaller diameter pipe

if the sump does give a bad reading its probably worth just going with an electric gauge

Cheers guys. I've been onto Mocal and someone is going to get back to me. The guy seemed to think it was do-able.

I know what you mean about pressurised oil into the cabin, but I've spoken to lots of old timers and a few drag racers. They said it's been done for years and still is in a lot of motorsport applications. If it's good enough for racers, it's good enough for me.

I'll post when Mocal get back to me with fitments. And the job is done.

Cheers
