Erratic front wipers

[FOREST GREEN]

It says ERRATIC not EROTIC 

The front wipers seem to come on for no apparent reason     I can be driving along and they'll do either 1 sweep then another 3 mins later, or they'll do 4-5sweeps then again 3 mins later 

I haven't knocked the stalk (b4 anyone suggests it  ) If/when it happens, I put the wipers on full speed for about 10 sweeps, it seems to cure the problem, until the next time!!

Some days it happens, some days it doesn't 

Any one got any ideas? Knackered wiper stalk? relay?

I would check the relay first :

Relays are underneath the steering wheel behind the trim.
