16v idling problem

ive got a p reg mk3 16v and when its cold and idleing it randomly revs a little then goes back to normal.. also some times when idleing it will runs lumpy and the revs will drop to near stralling point then revs its self back to normal. any help would be great cheers simon

I had the same symptoms on mine, cleaned out the throttle bodies and its good as new now!

Hi there.. yep clean the throttle body internal is a good first shot and won't cost you anything.
Other than that start doing some searches, you'll learn lots! and soon see the common faults and fixes with this type of issue.
You can work through the less expensive and easier fixes, at least eliminating them as you go until your sorted.

thanks for that.. over the last few months i had a hesitation at 3k so i changed leads, coil, plugs, dizzy cap, rotor arm, ecu relay, fuel relay, crank sensor, changed vaccuum pipes and it ran fine now this happens.. ill clean throttle body tomorrow and see what happens cheers simon

Your well into it then, check any breather pipe/apperatus too..i imagine you will have done so though.

Also give the earths a clean and tightening up. I spent ages trying to find why mine would idle bad, bought a new coolant temp sensor and it ended up being a loose gearbox earth.

i tried everything on mine, but couldn't get it sorted. in the end i just took it out and thrashed the nuts off it for a good our - literally drove it as hard as i could (with in the speed limit  ) and amazingly that seemed to solve it!!???

so if after you have tried absolutely everything. give that a go!!!
