mk2 2.0l 8v not running
« on: 15 November 2010, 20:38 »
i have completed a mk2 2.0l 8v conversion today, well all but the fact the bloody thing wont run. im wondering if you guys could help?

I have got a 2e block with a pb 1.8 head. 2e dizzy everything else off the mk2.
the car turns over and runs briefly all be it very lumpy and flat before stalling, approx 5-10 seconds. also when i turn the ignition off then turn it back on it goes to fire when in switch position 2(priming) misfires then stops. the timing is all spot on so cant be that, me and my mate are a bit stumped of what to try next. any ideas?

Thanks

Ross

check the dizzy, make sure the trigger window has 4 windows on it, not 1. also disconnect plug on main pump and turn key 1 click, make sure in-tank pump primes.  when you say you checked the timing, which marks were you using?  best to use the flywheel punch mark as i have seen crank pullys be out as much as 90degrees before. also are you checkign where the rotor arm is pointing rather than the intermediate shaft, as the dizzy can be way off the int shaft marks. i never even look at int shaft, just concentrate on where the dizzy is pointing. also, check the cam lobes on #1 point are pointing up and diagonally away from each other like this when the cam sprocket is lined up:
|\  /|

if not could be keyway is sheared or sprocket is fitted backwards
