quick gearbox question....
« on: 16 November 2010, 12:41 »
Hi guys,

I have a 2.0 8v and its started to not like staying in reverse...... as soon as i touch the throttle it jumps out, it does it less if i just use the clutch....

is this a case of a lil adjustment somewhere or what i think... a new box?

many thanks

Tommy

new box! have to hold it in reverse now. but treat it gentle like and it should last a long time, dont reverse up hills if you can help it and no reversing at 30mph or wheelspinning

Yeah just go easy on it mate and it should last a long time. I had this problem in my old mk3 and it was like it for the 2 years i owned it anyway. Does it stay in reverse if you hold it?

Yup there's no chance of uphill reversing, or reversing at 30 lol and far to old for wheel spinning....
It still pops out if I hold it, gets rather annoying! Oh well, thought it was worth an ask... Eyes peeled for a cheap box lol

Thanks guys

Theyre easy enough to get hold of at the minute, lots of people breaking mk3's.

hmm not good! could be gear bushes or adjustment, worth doing if not already as if nothing else will improve gear shifting. theres a guide in mk2 maintenance section, it for mk2 but mk3 8v 95% same anyway.  can rule out adjustment by manually selecting reverse at the box end then jump in car and fire it up with clutch pressed. if still pops out u know its box, if not its linkage/adjustment
