BBS CH Width and Sizes
« on: 14 November 2010, 18:04 »
Hi,

I'm on the hunt for a set of BBS CH 18" 8.5J for my MK4 GTi Turbo and luckily I've been offered a set with tyres for £550, wheels are generally in good condition with the slight grazing on some of the outer lips. They will probably be refurbed anyway. First of all is that a pretty good price? Secondly, these are the 'real deal' I'm told and are 8.5J wide, am I right in thinking this is the correct width and that 9J are only done in replicas? What are the tell tale signs of a genuine wheel? Anyway, any help would be much appreciated as I've wanted a set of these for a while and want 8.5J instead of the 9J.

Cheers

if they are genuine VW CH's the they will have the VW stamp if fake they will have 5*100 or 5*112 stamped inside them also if they are genuine they with have BBS stamped on them.. i believe 8.5J is correct for real ones.. £550 if they are good condition isnt bad think they about £1300 for a new set..

Theres no way there real for that money pick one up and see what sort of weight it is or get a picture of the back and do a search on uk-mkivs theres a whole thread about the difference in to wheels with pics but to give you an idea, mines where 21kg when boxed and still had the tyre on.  Just because there 8j dont make them real you can get reps in any size. All the dealers are doing is buying in a 8j set and a 9j set then mixing the 2 giving.

not sure what tech1889 is on about with the VW stamp. VW put the ch rim on the mk5 E30 in 5x112 but there NOT the same CH rims that comes in the mk4 fitment 5x100 of the top of my head its like one is BBS CH 002 and the other is BBS CH 012 plus the ET is different.

Reps will have BBS stamped on them front and back in marking wise reps will look the same the weight and looking at the back is the only way to tell.

Pick one up.

Lighter than you thought = Genuine

Fook that's heavy = Fake.

Plus look in detail at the quality of the casting on the back of the wheel.
On a genuine wheel there is no rough spots or blemishes.
