Hello, just bought a Mk2 GTI!
« on: 13 November 2010, 11:13 »
Hey guys!

After 2 months of searching for the right car to buy, and changing my mind over and over again, I finally settled on a 1990 G plate 8v GTI. It's been only one day since I got the car but it has been wonderful to drive! I am still amazed that things like the MFA works really well, and the condition is still very good.

Anyway, I bought the car with a bit of discount as I have to get some things fixed. Any of you guys here located in London who can recommend a good workshop to go to? I want an honest, reliable mechanic who can work on my car as I'm working on a limited budget.

The greatest issue bugging me now is a screeching from the power steering at low speed maneuvers and full locks but otherwise...

I'm happy to join the club!

M

hi.there.i bought a mk3 gti about 3 months ago,and i love.got a deal for it plus it only has 96000 miles on the clock.i have the same problem with the power making a noise.and i no how to fix it.under neath the fan belt is a thin belt, thats the power steering belt.all u have to do is replace the belt, for about 6 quid.but because the belt is slipping the rollers its runs on is to shiny, makin it slip.some rough sand paper or somet hard pad and rough the rollers up again.the new belt will grip it and the noise should stop.hope that helps
