available i believe in europe but never offered in right hand drive mk1s.
there have been conversions offered but imo the costs always seem to outweight any benefit, the only time you really need PS is when parking in tight spaces.
crazy quiffs are i believe are developing a kit, but if its any sort of steep price, then personally i would not bother

Was PAS even an option on the mk1 in the UK (or even Europe?) ? Unless it's been converted I don't think I have ever seen a UK spec mk1 with PAS from the factory. I seem to recall that the ones that had them converted were done with Nissan parts.

  I saw a company retro fitting electric kits.... wasn't cheap though thinking about it but it can be done.  as already said though, don't think the car warrants it overall.

Cheers for the replies guys. Was looking at a B5 passat 1.6, but the guy sold it before i got there

After work tonight the other half is now reconsidering the whole car purchasing, with all the cuts work is looking a bit dicey. 

I will put up a proper post if we are hunting for something. I'm going to try and finish the mk2 before I buy anythng else...
