So what is possible on a mk3?
« on: 24 October 2010, 22:58 »
I guess i should start with.... HELLO everybody
First off, really pleased i looked the forum up, i have spent some time reading the basics and you lot seem to know the score.
Got my hands on a decent looking mystic blue 1.6cl 8v. tidy little starting point.
I've made some cosmetic changes already and started to accumulate some uprated bits.
Judging by older posts the problems i have with it are not unique to mine, 5krpm limit (safe mode?) lumpy idling, awful emissions due to the mahoosive + silly.... it is shiny though, but needless trumpet gathering warm air to circulate through the already strangled aft engine. Other than that its minor bits that im having fun with. While i remember, how come ive ended up ith a 4stud hub when it looks to me like every model above, which im told this is pretty much the same shell has 5stud?
anyway...
Ive decided on a full vr6 conversion and have started to round up various parts in prep. Lowering springs, struts, some 17's, callipers, discs etc. What im really interested in is just what can i do to improve it?
Im pretty much set on buying an accident damaged mk3 vr6 and going from there.
Im wondering if changing the drive train is an option? Would a 4motion system fit? is it worth it?
I quite fancy a new interior, dont want to pay for custom..... this isnt the r35 gtr yet after all.
What can you all recommend? Im after quality mk5 cabin feel along with the ability to pull the skin off a rice pudding. Hopefully you can share your experiences of similar projects, with heads up on what to to expect to be a royal pain in the arias. Its abit long winded i know, but feel free to share any of your experiences.

I will upload pics of where im at in the next day or so.

Cheers for looking

Thanks for the welcome,
yeah that's the likely outcome.
Im surprised at the spec on the model i picked up. Some quality names littered around the car.
i'll head over to the mk3 section and try to get a few ideas
