toad ai606
« on: 16 October 2010, 23:13 »
am halfway through a toad install in the mk2, got most of it sussed, but need to know more about the door courtesy light stuff.. i dont really want to have to chop the light wiring and install diodes, can i just unplug the original wiring and pinch the door switches for the alarm only? also if theres only one wire on the toad for this, (green) then what do i do on the passenger door as surely that door needs a wire for the sensor as well? or is it in parallel with the drivers door switch so when either door opens it closes to earth? anyone else diy fitted the ai606?

just connect it to the drivers or passenger side matey, wine works ok, and you should have a seperate wire for the tailgate switch. mine is the A101 (cheaper toad alarm)

well its in/on now, seems to be ok. the two switches were wired in parallel so i chopped the wire on the drivers side that goes up to the interior light, and tagged the green toad wire onto the remaining one (going to passenger switch), then onto the switch. they both set the alarm off when opened, and the arm/disarm buttons on the fob do their job, its just it doesnt beep when being armed/disarmed, only the indicators flash... hmmm. ive yet to plumb the central locking in, and the boot/bonnet switches,so i guess it just needs programming/setting up when 100% finished...

Dont know if this helps but here goes, I took the orriginal alarm out of my GTI as the battery pack was knackered and I had no insurance alarm, any way just paid a lot of money and had a Cobra alarm fitted and this works great, however when I lock it the alarm bleeps which is an indication of a fault.

After calling out the alarm engineer and contacting the manufacturer the fault was traced to the interior lamp time delay, this could be rectified with some sort of "diods" (excuse the spelling) being fitted but as the alarm works fine I havent bothered.

this may be of use to you, regards.

Nah its all sorted, ditched the courtesy light and nicked the link, jus gonna use the on/off switch on the lite.. Gotta program the toad to beep wen locked/unlocked and that looks harder than installing it...
