Fitting advice for rear shocks + springs on MK3 Golf
« on: 28 September 2010, 11:22 »
I bought a shock + spring 35mm lowering kit for my mk3 VR6.

I never used the rear shocks and springs and am looking at selling them now.

I need to know will they fit any other MK3 Golfs.

When I put them into my VR6 I forgot to take into account that VR6's are lower than an average Golf already, and when I installed them on her, she was absolutely on the deck!

Would I be correct in saying that these would lower a normal Golf by about 60mm.

Thanks guys

they will fit any mk3, but if they're proper vr shocks if fitted to any other model the nose will probably sit higher due to them being designed for the vr6 weight.

As above front springs are heavier duty due to engine weight.

Thanks guys

It's just the rears that I'm looking to get rid of, so hopefully they should be grand.

I thought I would fit a complete set of cheapy lowering springs for the hell of it on my 8v. This is just an interim measure to sit it down a bit until I get a proper set of coilies.
I therefore purchased the aforementioned "cheap john" springs only to find that the rears didn't fit at the spring diameter was to narrow and didn't fit the spring top mount.

My car is a 96/97 P reg 3door, are there different diameter rear springs for different years etc or have I been sold the wrong set?? The fronts fit fine.

Excuse me also for sounding like a right tube only I couldn't find any info as to what diameter they should be and all other info says that ALL mk3 rear springs are the same.

Maybe I've been sold some estate ones or something like that.

Diameters of new springs are as follows:
Main Spring Dia.: 85mm
Pigtail Dia.: 55mm

Old (original) ones
Main Spring Dia.: 100mm (approx measured on the car)
Pigtail Dia.: About the same as the new ones.

Cheers to whoever replies.

Sounds like the wrong springs, the fronts changed sizes but from memory all the rears are the same apart from the estate.
