Speaking as mk2 16v owner, the kudos wears off when you have to live with K-jet... I've sorted mine now, but for a 1500 budget you'd be buying a whole lot of ballache, unless you find an unfiddled with cracker. Which would most likely cost more than 1500.
To OP, decide by going and looking a few different ones and then make a decision based on what you can live with day to day.
