« on: 07 October 2010, 16:20 »
hi need some help please guys or car is going off a cliff........
car is being a right pain in da ... 1997 mk3 abf 16v

ok  lett me explain a little car started playing up some time ago with just hot starting just turned over i had to let cool down before it would start again it drove fine but slowly it started to drive nopower etc.

after being motd car decided to not start atall umm so its time to gets me spanners out and buy some new parts no problem i though how hard can it b

fitted new starter motor now sounds like a golf .......umm
changed crank speed sensor
changed water temp sensor
changed relays 30 and 167
car still never went so changed the ignition switch
replaced ecu vac pipe cleaned throttle boddie
cleaned earths replaced broken earth to ecu replaced distributor conector replaced wire conector on throttle peddometer
still never went so brought a new coil hey presto it starts but yes a but still does not start when hot so have got it running but not found the problem.
car drives like its got a lawn mower engine fitted

ok so when first starting car it will have no throttle response for a while it will struggle  if you ask for revs.then after a warm up it drives but  struggles to move like a massive air leak.have noticed the vdo sucks loads of air in the pipe and i mean loads when engine started  how do i tell if  the vdo has gone?
or has the ecu gone ?
thanks steve

Have you checked the basics like rotor arm, and pugs, I know you have done a lot I can see that from your thread but you never mentioned the basics. My ABF would not run a couple of weeks ago, new plugs rotor arm and dizzy cap and it is much much better.

It sounds like a few faults rather than 1 fault as is often the case with these engines.
