Leaking roof on cab

Hi, put this in the garage forum but think it should go here.

Recently bought my cab. They've always stored it in the garage but I don't have one. The heavy rain is causing water to enter at the top left and right where the clamps are to hold it down. The mohair roof is in good condition at these points and the seals look fine. What can I do? I guess a car cover would be a start? Can you treat the roof?
Help? ?

This is fairly typical of Cabs (mine had it too).

Its usually the seals above the windows....

You may also want to check the rubber seal along the Top of the windscreen pane. When i fitted my new roof i made sure this clamped down tight to the frame as water can come in there too.

This is what I did to go a long way towards stopping my seals leaking:

First I cleaned the rubber, and the mating surface of the roof with Auto Glym Vinyl and Rubber Care.
A load of black, grimy stuff comes off, and the rubber is left feeling more 'rubbery' and less slimy to the touch.
Then I smeared Vaseline on the rubber, wiping any excess off after a week or so.

The car will still leak a bit if driving in very heavy rain, or when washing with a hose, but it used to be the case that the seats would be wet in the morning if it had rained in the night - no longer !

cabs leak, even the VW manual says under heavy rain water may enter the car. Cleaning the rubbers helps. the vasaline is good or use WD40 rub that its less messy but freshens up the rubber.

im having the same trouble now

The driver side thick rubber seems to be out a little bit,  compared to the passenger side ! which close and sits tight with the window and roof seal , the drivers side isnt as smooth when closing the door


would this work or help ?

chances are its leaking at the front of the seal that sits above the drivers window, it will leak between the seal mounting and the roof, or the door seal is not quite snug against the front of the roof seal,
 best thing is to run a bead of vasalene along the roof between the roof itself and the metal strip  seal mounting [ feel along under mohair and you will feel a metal strip, that is what holds the seal on the roof ],
 put quite a bit in there and wipe off excess with your finger, make sure there are no gaps in the bead you run. also smear more vasalene around the front square bit of the roof seal and at the top of the door seal above quarter glass apex, that should solve the problem

most common cause of this is the foam seal between the metal frame of the roof and the metal brackets that hold on the rubber seals.

they also had a bit of sealant between the rubber and metal holder on the front seal as well, starting from right at the front to about 5cm towards the rear. that + new foam seals solved my leaky problems. I used this stuff:

Agree with Rubjonny, this sorted mine out, much much better. If you're doing this I would recommend new screws too
