hole in exhaust?
« on: 25 September 2010, 21:00 »
just been out driving and all of a sudden my car sounded really throaty, i think it maybe a hole in the exhaust.
the noise gets louder and louder as i go through the gears and is at its peak as i put the clutch in at about 3500/4000 revs. any ideas if this is a "holey" (how ever you spell it) exhaust? cheers

been out to the car this morning and got a photo of whats wrong. the pipe has split right through and its probably just towards the front half of the car. will this be expensive and is the car ok to drive for maybe a couple of days?

i wouldnt drive it cause if you exhaust drops to the floor when driving it can cause some damage
249 bypass, ths fr3 engine mounts, S/S decat, 2.5'' straight through exhaust, induction kit, forge split r, coilovers, 18'' alloys, much more in the pipeline

actually, now i look properly it looks like the front pipe, get yourself to vw and buy a sleeve, its safe to drive but your mpg will be right down and you run the risk of cracking the exhaust further up, manifolds arent easy to change on these cars.

just got back from kwik fit, needs a new cat apparantly but luckily an old friend from school was there so he's welded a new piece of pipe in place for now. ill get my mate whos a mechanic to have a look when he's back from holiday just to check if it does actually need a new one and there not trying to fleece me.
