hi there im thinkin of buy an rns 510,only thing is i have never herd any reviews of them,,,are there any good ,and where is the best place to buy the most up to date one ,my car is an 05 gti,,,,many thanks

Definately a good worthwhile purchase.
I got ine off a guy called Morttdi or something similar from over at MK5gti forum.
He did the refurbed ones for £500 inc fitting, believe he still gets them.
Once you have this fitted you will never want another headunit.

They're not the best unit out there and the main reason for buying one TBH is the OEM look and fitment.

They can only play DVDs, not AVI, mp4 or any other format. They will play music as mp3 or wma but nothing else. Satnat is okay but the maps are two years old at best and do not have full postcode entry, which means you often have to enter the road name too. They will handle speed camera locations but not easily, and don't have audible warnings. There are units that do more for less cash.

But for me, I love the OEM fitment and look and that's why I bought it.

It's also why i bought a car with one fitted.  Despite the shortcomings mentioned by Stealthwolf it is a great unit and well worthy of a purchase.

As he says there are better head unit's.... but you lose your OEM look.  Not sure if teh MFSW works with the non-OEM's tbh, anyone know ?

MFSW works with some aftermarket ones, but not all, bit hit and miss, Sure you may not get full highline functions.

Had a look at my mate's the other day in his R32 - it looks good - think he paid £600 fitted.

It does have some limitations as mentioned - but I love the way it integrates with the dashboard display. Very nice. :)

 Mine came with the car when I bought it 2nd hand...definitely not worth the OEM asking price but a decent enough unit, limited postcode entry has left me in the middle of nowhere twice now though !!
