Why does my Blackberry not sync with my new car?
« on: 22 July 2010, 21:07 »
Bloody frustrating

You pay a fortune for a car including a VW bluetooth kit (I assume this is what I have - shark fin and all that)  and VW tell me that there are 2 phones that wont sync with my MK6 GTI

What are they you ask??  Probably some defunct, prehistoric types that are out of production???

They are: (according to VW)

1. Apple iphone
2. BLACKBERRY!!!! (mine is an 8120)

Interestingly the Blackberry name comes up in the little screen on the dash but then tells me is it "incompatible with car"

VW offered to fit me a kit at cost price £200 but I dont think so!!

Anybody any suggestions?

Nothing you can do with the old rSap kit, it's just the way it is.

Have a look at what has been posted in this thread - http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=161118.0

This "upgrade" costs around £300 but is the only what to get iPhone and older Blackberrys working with all the premium bluetooth kit functions.

Thanks for your advice.  VW quoted me £200 but think I've spent enough on the car for now!

cheers

That will be for a basic car kit (probably with the external touch screen) rather than the latest version of the premium integrated bluetooth.

Assuming you have the Blackberry set to have "remote SIM" on and have the VW Bluetooth kit then we've had it working, I posted the following on another forum which might help:

"Finally cracked it. We were doing what lots of threads say to do (and sort of what you do with the Nokia) which is to put the blackberry into "listen" mode and then search with the car kit, then enter the password into the phone. On our particular Curve 8520 this did not work.

Trick was to set the car searching, then tried to search with the blackberry. Blackberry did not find anything but the car then found the blackberry, we then connected and did the usual entering of the password that the car gave us...this worked!

Now have a very happy wife!"

I have a blackberry 8310 which did not connect to the bluetooth phone system, so saved £170 and bought a cheap pay as you go nokia which works perfectly.

I can't believe it - I just managed to get my wife's 8520 Curve to synch with the troublesome Premium Bluetooth kit !!

Procedure as follows:

1, Set Car to search for bluetooth devices
2, Set phone to listen for bluetooth devices
3, Car finds phone (displays name on dash MFD) while phone is still going through listen cycle
4, Press OK on RH MF steering control - triggers an exchange between car and phone - phone asks for a PIN
5, PIN to use is displayed on Car MFD - 16 digits
6, Enter PIN into phone and press enter
7, Phone finally connects fully and shows a message enabling you to disconnect from Car - phone now redundant, all functions controlled from car, can put phone in pocket/centre console/wherever
8, Touchscreen display now kicks into life and message comes up showing that address book has loaded (I might have pressed the phone button on the touchscreen display - can't remember)
9, While I was doing this, a text arrived and I was notified on the Dash MFD, and was also able to read the message!
10, When you want to disconnect, just hit enter on the prompt showing on the phone
11, Reconnection is automatic from now on when you get in the car with the phone

At last!! And a lot better than forking out more money for the newer unit ...

The wife was very pleased ... especially about being able to read texts from her mates on the display ...

It will be interesting to see if the text messages continue to be displayed on the MFD.
My FISCON originally displayed on it and I was able to read and also reply using the pre written texts. However this has now stopped and the texts don't display*. If I access the texts on the head unit it is texts from when I first installed the FISCON. Which makes me believe it has some sort of memory (which is obviously full) however I don't know how to purge that memory.

*Occasionally when I receive a text it will display SMS on the MFD but it seems to be hit and miss but it doesn't have the contents of the SMS.

Aaarrgghhhhhhhhh.....

Now my wife's blackberry has stopped working (been working fine for weeks now), allegedly after my 2 year old "pressed a button" in the car!!

I have just spent 30 minutes trying to get the phone synched with the car again (RSAP Premium Bluetooth). The strange thing is, it looks as though the car has remembered the phone, but won't resynch to it properly. In fact the phone believes it is connected to the car as well! Deleting the entry from the phone and reconnecting to the car only gets you as far as entering the 16 digit PIN - at this point the car gives up and says "Connection not possible".

Also, if I go to the phone menu on the MFD, then the car tries to connect automatically to the phone, and I get a prompt on the phone screen to enter a PIN, but no PIN is displayed on the MFD ...

What I would like to do is purge the bluetooth device entry from the car - it obviously has an entry in it, as I changed the name of my wifes phone, and the old name came up on the MFD - but I can't see an option for debonding/deleting in the car menu...

So now I am stuck.. any ideas?

This is so f*&@ing frustrating!!!!
