more MK2 into a MK1 stuff... (windows)
« on: 21 September 2010, 21:46 »
Hi

Before I try 'operation teach the neighbourhood some new words', will MK2 electric windows fit into a MK1?
I only ask, as my roll cage gets in the way (of everything) and have a complete set, loom & switches, and as the car is under going a major overhaul, I thought why not?

Cheers

With a little help from a spare door, a nibbler, paint pen, calipers and a drill, the spare door now liiks like a piece of swicc cheese, but I now have a template for "easily" installing MK2 electric windows into a MK1 door.

After much forcing and cursing, I managed to get the regulator in, perfect fit, motor ran etc, but window wouldn't move, so offered up the manual regulator, and it sits at a lent back angle, funnily enough, the same angle that the back of the door-window frame sits at.

Re-did the above, window slides down, before hitting the motor.

Cut the little v shape pressing out from above the winder handle hole, re-posistion the fixing bolts for the motor, re-fit, and Bobs ya mothers brother.

1/2 a day of fudging about means I can now open my windows with out having to force the winder past the roll cage

Cheers
