Rear brake binding
« on: 26 August 2010, 20:20 »
Hi guys, new here and couldnt find the answer on the search option so here goes.

1986 mk2 golf gti 8v

My nsr brake is binding on, intermitantly?
So far i have

Removed caliper, greased sliding pins, checked piston pumps back easily, reset piston to fully back position, replaced pads, checked hand brake cable is free all to no avail.

Any suggestions would be very welcome

Thank you in advance

have a look at the areas on the carrier where the pad moves, on my mk2 these were heavily corroded and made the brakes sticky. gave em a good going over with a wire brush then a file to make them smooth again and a bit of copper grease, all was well again.

if that doesnt fix it jack car up take wheel off and release hand brake and see if the end of the handbrake cable seems to be loose on the caliper end if it is take cable from lever and spray wb40 where the lever goes into the caliper body and tap the lever up and down with a hammer and repeat till the lever springs back on its own
if this works you will need to do this every couple of weeks till you replace the calipers
