If you push on it, you notice how thin and flexy it is? Im guessing if you push and drill (creating heat) it in theory may distort.

... and that is what has happenned, I feel. You can see the strees lines on either side of the plate, equally distributed.

I think we must be the only ones with this problem.

Probably as most dealers stick the plates on.

Here is the picture again.
The circles are waviness in the plastic and the 'line' is the stress line. It is exactly the same on the other side.

BTW Snoops: The rear diffuser is painted and ready for fitting. The Honda dealer will do for me. Still have not seen it!

Do you also have the stress line/crease?

My 3rd photo shows how the image is distorted best. Its more a wavy to behind the number plate.

Mine is flat as a pancake behind the number plate. The two depressions and crease lines are outside the number plate area.

At long last they have agreed to do a localised repair. It won't be 100% perfect, but it will be much better than it is. Will cost £250 according to them. VW to pay.
Anyway, I am seeing a guy on the 24th who will attempt to improve it with heat etc. But I'll still give it to the VW Body shop. At least they will work on it with a slightly better 'canvas'.
